If you decide to search for Buff turkeys, you will find them nearly impossible to find! Once a very popular variety, they were completely extinct by the 1920s. Due to the efforts of a few heritage breeders, the buff has made a small comeback, even though it is not officially recognized. Because of this, the birds that are available are few and far between, consisting of Jersey Buffs, Self Buffs, and a few of the rare type known as “Bourbon Buffs”. We searched high and low to find the type of birds that we were looking for and have managed to find what I believe are as close to a true buff color as there are available. We have continued to try to develop our strain, selecting the lightest buff colored ones to breed. If you would like to own a variety that virtually no one else has, then Buff turkeys may be just what you’re looking for! They are a small to medium-sized bird that seems a bit more shy than other heritage breeds (at least that is my experience). But they are both beautiful and a unique variety.
